Another admirable correction from Astinee Souvenirs Shop, stop selling decorative Buddha statue

Recently, Knowing Buddha Organization received notification from Buddhists who support the organization’s work in protecting Buddhism. The report suggested that Astinee Souvenirs Shop sell products using Buddha’s head as decoration. From Buddhist point of view, using Buddha head as decoration is considered very disrespectful and highly inappropriate. Besides, the offensive product could be the result of unappropriated imitation and misconception of Buddha and will misguide people to perceive him in a wrong way which further diminish Buddhism values and prestige. Moreover, Buddha statue should be enshrined by Buddhist for paying respect and preserving Buddhism and should not be used as decoration.

For this reason, we informed the company that Buddha’s symbol should not be used for decorative purpose, and it is wrong to sell these products. We decided to give the owner the right and proper ways to treat Buddha images by sending letter to the company. Not long after, Astinee Souvenirs Shop responded and was willing to resolve the matter and has stopped selling this inappropriate product.

We are grateful that Astinee Souvenirs Shop doing business with a sense of respect for all religions, adjusting for sensitive religious matters and social norms and are willingness to listen and correct for what is wrong. May we all be aware of this matter as a Buddhist. It is our duty when it comes to protecting and maintaining Buddhism and Buddha’s symbols. Although you are not Buddhist, proper respect is supposed to be spotted on in general. Guiding or correcting those around you who do not know would be highly appreciated.
